Wrong-way driver killed in crash on I-35W in Fort Worth, police say
A man is dead after driving the wrong way and colliding head on with another car in the express lane of a Fort Worth interstate early Friday morning, police said.
The driver was reportedly flown via CareFlite to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Byaombe Mwenge, 44.
A passenger in the wrong-way vehicle was airlifted to the hospital with unknown injuries after the crash, police said. That person was alive Friday morning.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident sustained minor injuries, police said.
Units responded to a report of a vehicle driving the wrong way in the I-35W toll express lanes near I-820 around 1:15 a.m. Friday, police said. Officers discovered a black sedan was traveling north in southbound lanes.
The sedan stopped, police said, “but unfortunately collided with another vehicle head on.”
An update on the the condition of the passenger flown to the hospital wasn’t immediately available Friday morning.
