One man dead, another in custody after shooting at south Fort Worth home, police say

One man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting apparently involving some kind of argument at a home in a south Fort Worth neighborhood Wednesday night, according to police and neighbors.

Keith Darrell Larkins Jr., 35, was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as the victim. He lived at the home in the 8700 block of Hunters Trail where he was shot and killed, police said.

A man was sitting outside in the yard with a gun next to him when officers arrived on the scene around 11:10 p.m., according to the department. He was arrested. Police didn’t release his name or describe his relationship to the victim.

Kwaku Ahatsi, 90, who lives a few houses down the road from the victim, said on Thursday morning he could hear multiple voices yelling over one another and “quarreling” sometime around 11 the night before. “And one of them actually said, ‘I’ll kill you,’” Ahatsi recalled.

Ahatsi, an immigrant from Ghana who’s lived here for 10 years, then heard multiple gunshots.

Bonnie Love, 60, said she could hear four shots from her home on the other side of the street. She was watching TV when she was startled by a loud “pow, pow, pow, pow,” which she had never heard on this block, she said.

“It’s real quiet,” she said of the neighborhood. “Everybody stays to theirselves.”

More than 20 units responded to the scene Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to a police call log. Police didn’t say what led to the shooting.

Ahatsi and Love both said they don’t know the family that lives in the home where the shooting occurred.

The incident led some neighbors to feel concerned Thursday morning, worrying how someone else on the block could have been hurt by the incident.

Love, who lives with her 44-year-old daughter, said she was “scared the bullet could’ve came over here.” She joked she might be ready to move.

Nisee Nicole, a 23-year-old resident on the block, has a 2-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl. She didn’t hear about the shooting until Thursday morning, and she said it was “really sad” as well as concerning.

“As a parent, it’s scary because our kids could be out here and playing,” she said. “It’s just crazy.”
