Man dies of injuries from fire at his east Fort Worth house

A man died Thursday afternoon after a fire started at his house in east Fort Worth house, authorities said.

The victim was identified as Amos Watkins, Jr., 64, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Friday. A ruling on his death is pending an autopsy.

Watkins lived in the house that caught fire, according to the website.

Flames erupted about 2:45 p.m. inside the house in the 3500 block of Strong Avenue, said Mike Drivdahl, a Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters found Watkins inside the house, and he was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The origin of the fire and its cause were under investigation, Drivdahl said.
