2 suffer minor injuries in fire in basement of closed Fort Worth school, officials say

Two people inhaled smoke from a fire that burned Friday in the basement of a closed Fort Worth school, authorities said.

A man and woman suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 2 p.m. at the R. Vickery School in the 1900 block of East Vickery Boulevard. It was under control after about 20 minutes.

The vacant school closed in the 1980s.

Three or four people on another floor in the building were not injured, the Fort Worth Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
