3-year-old Texas boy dies after accidentally shooting himself at relative’s home
A 3-year-old Texas boy died Friday night at a Fort Worth hospital after accidentally shooting himself while playing with a gun.
Keegan A. Lee Vasquez of Baird was pronounced dead at 11:39 p.m. Friday at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Monday.
He died from a gunshot wound to his head, and a ruling on his death is pending.
The shooting occurred Friday at the home of Keegan’s great-grandmother in Clyde. Clyde is about 135 miles west of Fort Worth.
Callahan County Sheriff Terry Joy told KTXS-TV that the boy had found a .25-caliber pistol on a table in his great-grandmother’s bedroom.
Joy said the boy picked up the weapon and was playing with it when it went off.
No other injuries were reported.
The sheriff told KTXS-TV he did not believe charges should be filed.
A GoFundMe account has been established to help Keegan’s family with “medical bills, funeral and time off of work to grieve their beautiful son.”
