2 killed in New Year’s Eve crash in Fort Worth, police say

Two people are dead following a crash involving a rollover that occurred late on New Year’s Eve in Fort Worth, police said.

The victims were identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Steven Rosalez, 18, and Armando Mireles, 46. Both drivers died of blunt-force injuries at the scene of the crash at 11:40 p.m., the medical examiner reported, and their deaths were ruled an accident. Rosalez lived in Fort Worth. No address was listed for Mireles on the medical examiner’s report.

Fort Worth officers responded to a reported crash with rollover at the intersection of McCart Avenue and Bilglade Road, according to Officer Jimmy Pollozani, a police spokesman. They found one vehicle rolled over, he said, and determined the driver was dead.

The other vehicle involved in the crash almost hit a residential building, he said. Police found the vehicle and determined that driver also was dead.

An off-duty firefighter witnessed the crash and spoke with police, Pollozani said. He reported the car that rolled over was speeding.

Police didn’t immediately respond to questions Thursday about what happened in the moments before the crash.

KTVT-TV (Channel 11) reported the crash involved a pickup truck that struck an oncoming vehicle head-on. The truck, according to KTVT-TV, had been moving southbound when it went into a northbound lane in an attempt to pass a car and crashed into the other vehicle.
