Man dead following New Year’s Eve shooting in Denton, police say
A man was killed in an apparent shooting in a Denton parking lot on New Year’s Eve, police said.
The man was reportedly found in an apartment complex parking lot and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a little after midnight. He appeared to have been shot, police said.
The man has been identified as Steven Warren Daniels Jr., 22, of Denton, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office. He died from a gunshot wound to his chest and his death has been ruled a homicide.
Daniels lived at the complex where the shooting occurred, according to the medical examiner’s website.
Denton officers were dispatched to a reported shooting in the 900 block of Cleveland Street around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said. They located the man lying on the ground inside a gated apartment complex parking lot and he was taken to the hospital.
Police haven’t identified any suspects and couldn’t say what led to the shooting. An investigation is ongoing.
