6 people killed by fiery Fort Worth crash after truck hits tree, police say
Six people died Monday after a fiery crash on E. Northside Drive, police said.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the major accident shortly before 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of E. Northside Drive.
Police determined that a pickup truck left the road, crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Five people in the truck died Monday morning, police said.
A homeless man who was near the crash suffered burns. He was in critical condition following the crash and later died, authorities said Monday evening.
The names of the victims have not been released.
Officers determined the homeless man had a tent near the tree that the pickup hit. He was taken by Care Flight to the burn unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he died.
Police have not released any information on why the pickup left the road. An investigation into the crash continued Monday.
Five Fort Worth Fire Departments units responded to the scene of the wreck, in a heavily wooded area near Cold Springs Road, the fire department said in a news release. The first unit arrived within three minutes after receiving the call and quickly put out the flames.
“We express our deepest condolences to the friends and family affected by this tragedy,” the fire department statement said.
