One killed, three others rescued by officers in fiery wreck after head-on crash, police say

A Fort Worth man was killed late Friday when a vehicle he was in crashed head-on with another vehicle and then burst into flames, police said Monday.

Three people inside of the vehicle were pulled out by Fort Worth police, but officers could not reach the man who died.

In a separate traffic crash on Friday night, another passenger died from injuries she suffered in a wreck on the South Freeway, police said.

In the fiery crash, police responded to a report of a major accident shortly before 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 4900 block of N. Main St. near Northwest Loop 820. This was a head-on collision, police said.

When they arrived, officers found a vehicle on fire, but with people still inside. Officers shattered windows and pulled three people out.

A passenger in the vehicle who could not be rescued died at the scene, police said.

The victim was identified as Jose Ricardo Salcedo, 31, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Monday. He died from blunt-force trauma and his death was ruled an accident.

Hours before that fatal accident Friday night, a 70-year-old woman died from injuries she suffered in a traffic accident on the South Freeway or Interstate 35W.

Maria Martinez-De-Martinez, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was killed in the traffic accident, according to the medical examiner’s website on Monday. She died from trauma to her chest and her death has been ruled an accident.

The accident was in the 1300 block of the South Freeway.

Police did not release any other details on the fatal crash.
