Two young children killed in traffic accident on rain-slick Fort Worth highway
Two children were killed Saturday night in a two-vehicle wreck on a rain-slick highway, police said.
Initially, police reported two girls died in the accident, but officials at the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office identified the victims as a baby boy and a 6-year-old girl.
The victims were identified as Trinity Atkins, 6, of Arlington, and 11-month-old Wesley Barrett of Grand Prairie, according to the medical examiner’s website on Sunday. The two died Saturday night at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Wesley was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m. Saturday and Trinity died at 9:08 p.m., authorities said.
The two children were in a gold Nissan Altima when the car was hit by another vehicle which had hydroplaned.
The accident was reported shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of East Loop 820 at Craig Street.
The driver of a black Dodge Ram hydroplaned and lost control of his car, police said. He crashed into the Altima that a woman was driving with the two children.
The Nissan Altima was pushed through a guardrail and rolled onto the service road.
Police did not release any other details.
