A child was taken to a local hospital after falling three stories from an apartment window, according to the Fort Worth Police Department.

Officers were sent to the Magnolia at Village Creek apartments, 6124 Village Course Circle, just after 1:45 p.m.

Officer Jimmy Pollozani said the girl fell from a third floor window. Kyle Falkner with the Fort Worth Fire Department confirmed the girl is 1 years old.

Information on how the girl fell wasn’t immediately available, but the initial police report says the girl’s mother told dispatchers the child was playing near the window when she fell. Investigators believe the girl was able to push out the screen, authorities said.

The girl was taken to Cook Children’s in critical condition. The girl hit an awning that’s over the second floor, which may have broken her fall, Falkner said.

This is a developing story that will be updated when we have more information.
