Motorcyclist killed, passenger critically injured in Dallas highway wreck

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was critically injured Sunday morning when their vehicle crashed into the back of a car that had run out of gas and left in a middle lane of North Central Expressway, police said.
The passenger on the motorcycle was taken to Presbyterian Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma, police said.
The name of the 34-year-old motorcyclist had not been released pending notification of relatives.
Detectives will refer a criminally negligent homicide case to a Dallas County grand jury for consideration against the 25-year-old driver of the car who abandoned the car in the middle of the highway.
Police responded to the major accident about 4:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of North Central Expressway at Walnut Hill Lane.
The 25-year-old driver told police she ran out of gas, exited her vehicle and sat on the shoulder of the highway waiting for friends to arrive to help her.
Minutes later, the motorcyclist came upon the disabled car and hit the back of it, throwing the driver and his passenger off the vehicle. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was the 26th traffic fatality in Dallas this year.
