New podcast episode explores the cold case murder of Martin Munoz
It’s been almost 11 years since Jose “Martin” Muñoz went to work at the Fort Worth auto shop he owned and never came home.
When an argument over a tire rim with a customer grew heated at the shop on Rosedale Street, Muñoz said he was calling the police.
The customer responded by shooting Muñoz in the head, then fleeing in a pickup driven by a second man.
The 39-year-old family man’s death would immerse them in a grief so deep that time has done little to ease.
It’s a pain made worse, they say, knowing that Muñoz’s killer remains free.
Despite a good description of the suspect’s truck and a composite of the shooter put out by police, a suspect has never been identified.
“It’s not fair that he’s out there, even the driver, … getting to spend time with his family. Maybe having children. Getting to see his people grow up,” says Viviana Muñoz-Cardoso, Muñoz’s oldest daughter.
“We don’t get to share any of that.”
The suspects’ pickup was described as a red four-door Dodge Ram 1500 series —possibly a 2002 or 2003 model — with a short bed, black bed liner and fancy after-market wheels, 28-inches in size. The shooter was described as a light-complected Hispanic man, about 20 to 22 years of age and about 5-foot-6-inches tall. He may have had tattoos on his arms.
