Mice, rodent droppings found during Dallas restaurant health inspections
Inspectors found trapped mice and roaches at one Dallas restaurant and moldy ice machines and rodent droppings at others, according to Aug. 31-Sept. 13 health inspection data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
The city of Dallas uses a 100-point system that is different from Fort Worth. A range of 100-90 is considered very good. Anything under 60 is unacceptable, and 69-60 is failing. No restaurants scored below 70 during this round of inspections, but seven establishments scored between 70 and 79 and will require a follow-up inspection within 30 days.
Hola Cafe at 1845 Woodall Rogers Freeway scored 72 on Sept. 10. Black mold or mildew was found inside the ice machine, an employee was preparing food with bare hands and the jalapeño kolaches weren’t stored at a safe temperature.
Imperio Pizza Lounge at 19021 Midway Road scored 74 on Sept. 12. A dead pest was stuck to a wet cardboard floor mat, some packaged food was being held at an unsafe temperature and raw eggs and squid were stored above ready-to-eat packaged food in the cooler.
Southside Grocery at 4630 Elsie Faye Heggins St. scored 74 on Sept. 10. An inspector found raw ground beef stored at room temperature, a rotting cucumber in a cooler and no soap and paper towels at one of the hand sinks.
Skillman Wok at 9780 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway scored 76 on Sept. 12. One of the coolers was dirty and glue boards with roaches were lying near open containers of condiments. Trapped mice were also found in the facility.
Ferguson Food Mart at 11770 Ferguson Road scored 77 on Sept. 3. Some tamales were more than a week past the expiration date, raw eggs were stored over gallons of milk and the inside of the ice machine was dirty.
Tacos Y Mas at 2457 Gus Thomasson Road scored 77 on Sept. 11. Some food was stored without date markings, pink mold was found inside the ice machine and dried food inside the microwave.
Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant at 10219 N. Central Expressway scored 77 on Sept. 10. Several food items were not dated and an employee neglected to wash their hands before putting on gloves.
Rodent droppings were found at Myrtle Management Group LLC, located at 3945 Myrtle St., and a food establishment inside Frank Crowley Courts Building, located at 133 N. Riverfront Blvd.
In addition to Skillman Wok, roaches were found inside Cafe Delicious at 5209 Botham Jean Blvd., Bellini’s Italian Cafe at 921 N. Riverfront Blvd. and Tom Thumb at 315 S. Hampton Road.
