Dallas man accused in shooting death after being beaten with wooden table leg
A fight at a Dallas home Sunday afternoon left one person dead and another man who fled the scene on a bicycle in custody, Dallas police said Monday.
No other injuries were reported in the shooting that occurred about 1:45 p.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of Toronto St. in Dallas.
Dallas police identified the victim as 35-year-old Michael Tilley who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Keith Waters of Dallas. He was in the Dallas County Jail on Monday, facing a charge of murder. No bail had been set.
Waters and a woman were involved in an argument at the residence on Toronto Street on Sunday afternoon when she called her son, Michael Tilley, to come over, according to a warrant written by Dallas Detective John Valdez.
Tilley and Waters got into a fight, but at some point, Waters told detectives he pulled out a handgun. He fired several rounds, hitting Tilley in the neck and chest. Tilley ran out of the home and collapsed on a sidewalk, according to the warrant.
After the shooting, Waters jumped on a bicycle, fled the scene, but he was arrested a few minutes later without incident.
During an interview with Dallas police, Waters told detectives he fired his weapon after Tilley had hit him two times with a wooden table leg, according to the warrant.
Waters said he threw his pistol into an alley as he fled the scene.
