Man armed with two pistols shot, killed by officer near Dallas, police say
A man authorities say was armed with two pistols was shot and killed early Friday near a Garland home, Garland police said.
Multiple rounds were fired inside of a garage and at Garland officers in the incident, but no other injuries were reported, police said in a news release.
Garland police identified the suspect as Dung Nguyen, 50, of Murphy.
A 7-year-old child was found unharmed in the home, police said.
Garland police responded to a 911 call at the home, in the 1900 block of Vail Drive in Garland, where a disturbance was reported involving a gun.
When they arrived, officers heard residents in the garage and tried to communicate with them. As they attempted to talk to the residents, Garland officers heard several shots inside of the garage, police said.
Seconds later, someone opened fire at officers through a garage door.
Three residents fled the home after the shots were fired, Garland police said. Officers learned a 7-year-old remained in the home, and SWAT officers entered the residence to rescue the child.
During the rescue attempt, the suspect later identified as Dung Nguyen confronted the officers and he was shot, said Garland police Capt. S.P. McCully in a Friday news release.
Paramedics provided medical aid, but Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene.
McCully said the suspect was shot by a five-year veteran of the Garland Police Department. The officer was placed on administrative leave.
Members of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office public integrity unit responded to the scene to investigate.
An investigation into the shooting continued Friday.
