Man in critical condition after being hit by car near traffic stop, police say
A man was hit by a car Monday, July 13 in the Trophy Club and Westlake area while walking to pick up his girlfriend’s car after she was arrested during a traffic stop, Keller police said.
The traffic stop took place in the Trophy Club and Westlake area on Monday around 9:19 p.m., and the man was hit by a driver on the Westlake Parkway westbound entrance to Highway 114.
“A Keller police officer remained with the vehicle to facilitate the release,” the spokesperson said. “After arriving and retrieving his identification from his own vehicle, the boyfriend was struck by a passing motorist while attempting to cross the on-ramp.”
An officer arrested both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle in the initial stop, a Keller police spokesperson said. The driver of the car that hit the man crossing the on-ramp was not arrested.
Keller Public Safety, Westlake Fire-EMS and Southlake police officers responded to the accident. The man was taken to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Grapevine, where he remains in critical condition, according to the police department.
Police said the initial traffic stop was due to “driving without headlights/taillights,” but the driver also had an outstanding criminal warrant, and the passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana and outstanding traffic warrants.
The accident had all but one lane of westbound Highway 114 closed until 1 a.m. on July 14, at which point all lanes were reopened.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident led by the Keller Police Department’s Regional Crash Reconstruction Team.
