4 injured in Fort Worth shooting near Historic Stop Six Park on Rosedale, police say
Two women, a child and an officer were injured when an unidentified gunman opened fire near a Fort Worth park where a community event was being held on East Rosedale Street on Saturday night, police said.
Officers were already in the area to provide security for a large scheduled gathering at Historic Stop Six Park, also known as Rosedale Plaza Park, at 5200 E. Rosedale. Posts on social media show the event, scheduled to end about 9 p.m., was advertised as Stop Six Day and was intended to be a family-friendly gathering with musical performances.
About 9:10 p.m., a male suspect wearing all black was seen coming around the corner, police spokesperson Officer Brad Perez said. The suspect came from the direction of the Apex Apartments complex, which is east of the park on the other side of businesses in a strip mall, he said.
The suspect appeared to fire a gun indiscriminately in the direction of several people and then ran back toward the apartments, Perez said.
A woman who was shot in the head was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The other three victims’ injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A woman was shot in the hip, and a child was grazed in the head by a bullet, Perez said. An officer was hit in the neck by shrapnel when a bullet went through the windshield of the patrol car he was sitting inside.
No suspect is in custody. The Major Case Unit is investigating, and anyone with information is asked to contact police at 817-392-4222 or submit tips anonymously to Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
Dozens of police units were dispatched to the area, according to a call log.
