A capital murder suspect in a March killing during a possible gun sale in an Arlington convenience store parking lot was arrested on Thursday, police said.

Aleq Holmes, 20, was booked in connection with the shooting death of Malachi Hayes, the Arlington Police Department said. Hayes was also 20 and a former Sam Houston High School basketball player.

Members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force found Holmes in Grand Prairie and took him into custody.

Hayes was shot on March 26 at the store in the 2100 block of East Abram Street, police said. Hayes, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

After reviewing digital evidence and speaking with witnesses, homicide detectives concluded that Holmes was a suspect in the killing. Additional arrests are possible, police said.

Holmes declined to speak to detectives after his arrest.
