A 22-year-old Fort Worth man was arrested after the fatal shooting of a Costco employee in Strongsville, Ohio, on Saturday, according to police.

Christian Bryant was arrested and faces a murder charge in connection to the killing of 61-year-old Randolph E. Corrigan, an employee at the Costco store, Strongsville police said in a news release.

Bryant, a truck driver who was traveling through Ohio at the time of the shooting, made his first court appearance on Monday. He told the court that Corrigan approached him with a knife, WKYC-TV reported. His bond has been set at $5 million.

Confrontation about gun led to fatal shooting

Strongsville police officers responded shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, to the Costco store at 16690 Royalton Road, according to a news release.

When officers arrived, they found Corrigan with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to Metro General Hospital, where he later died, police said.

Bryant entered the Costco with a drum magazine in one of his pockets and was confronted by Corrigan to prevent him from entering the store with a gun, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by WKYC-TV.

Witnesses reported that Bryant pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun during the confrontation and Corrigan pulled out a pocket knife, according to the affidavit.

Bryant fired at Corrigan, who fell to the ground, witnesses reported. Bryant then took a pause and fired multiple additional shots, according to the affidavit.

While being taken into custody, Bryant told officers that “a white man approached me with a knife for no reason and I defended myself,” the affidavit reads.

According to the affidavit, investigators found 13 fired .40-caliber shell casings at the scene. Officers also recovered a Springfield XD-40 handgun with a drum magazine containing 37 rounds, along with one round in the chamber, the document states.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
