Suspect in Arlington event venue fight killing arrested in Panama City, Florida
The suspect in a killing four weeks ago outside an Arlington event venue was taken into custody last week in the Panama City, Florida, area, police said on Monday.
Xavier Jones, 28, was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting death of Karri Viswanath, 32.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force found Jones.
Viswanath was shot multiple times outside the event venue in the 1200 block of California Lane on March 29.
Witnesses told officers that, inside the venue, Jones and Viswanath got into a physical fight that prompted private security to start clearing out the space, according to the Arlington Police Department. Jones fired shots outside the venue, and witnesses reported seeing Jones getting into a vehicle after the shooting and driving from the scene, police said.
An additional witness told detectives he or she saw Jones holding a gun just before the shooting, police said. A video recording shows Jones going to his vehicle, retrieving an object, doing a racking motion consistent with a firearm, then walking toward the area where the shooting occurred moments before the shooting, police said.
Jones was on Monday being held in the Bay County, Florida, jail.
