A former North Texas teacher and coach accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student is facing a new charge of child sexual assault, court records show.

A former Azle High School teacher and coach previously arrested and charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student several years ago, is facing a new charge in the case, court records show.

Carlos Font-Santiago, 32, was arrested Friday, Dec. 12 by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant and faces an additional charge of sexual assault of a child, according to court records.

Azle police said the new charge is an updated charge after a “lengthy investigation into Font-Santiago’s improper relationship with a former student,” according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.

Font-Santiago, who was a basketball and softball coach at Azle High School, was previously arrested in April by Azle police on a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student.

According to the district’s statement in April, Font-Santiago had worked as a teacher for Azle ISD in northwest Tarrant County for seven years. He has served as assistant coach for various sports, and this was his first year as Azle High School’s head softball coach, officials said.

Authorities have not released further details about the ongoing police investigation or the incidents leading to the charges.
