Azle High School softball coach accused of improper student relationship
Azle High School teacher and head softball coach Carlos Font has been arrested after a former student reported having an inappropriate relationship with the teacher several years ago, school district officials said in a message to parents.
Font was arrested Thursday by Azle police and faces a charge of improper relationship between an educator and student, according to jail records. He was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on Friday, April 18. His bond has not been set.
Font, 31, has worked as a teacher for Azle ISD, in North Texas, for seven years, according to the district’s message. He has served as assistant coach for various sports, and this was his first year as Azle High School’s head softball coach, officials said.
“He will not return to any district property or have any contact with students while the legal process continues,” district officials said. “The district takes allegations of inappropriate behavior between an employee and student seriously, and our top priority is to ensure a safe learning environment for our students.”
District officials said they could not share further details of the case because of the ongoing police investigation. It’s unclear whether Font has retained a defense attorney.
Anyone who wants to report concerning behavior in the school district can make an anonymous report using the Azle ISD tip line on the district’s website or mobile app.
