2 people killed, 2 injured in early morning shootings across Fort Worth: police
Fort Worth police responded to multiple shootings across the city that killed two people and injured two more early Friday, officials said.
Officers first responded to the 3200 block of New York Avenue about 2:35 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a drive-by shooting. The house was hit by gunfire, police said, and two residents were injured by shrapnel. They were both taken to a hospital for treatment.
No suspects have been arrested in the case. Detectives from the Gun Violence Unit are investigating, according to police.
Starting about 5:25 a.m., around 20 police units responded to the Valley Motel at 1850 Jacksboro Highway. A woman had been shot in the stomach by an unknown person. According to police, the woman was shot while helping a man try to recover his vehicle. The car had been stolen, but not yet reported to police.
The two people inside the stolen car got out and ran away, according to a news release. Police said they’ve learned the car may have been involved in a drive-by shooting early Friday morning. It’s not clear if that was the shooting on New York Avenue.
The woman was taken to a hospital, but later died from her injuries. She was identified as 37-year-old Jessica Stephanie Gonzales by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police said they were still looking for the shooter.
In another incident, officers found a man who’d been shot at an apartment complex in the 6400 block of Wildwood Circle in west Fort Worth. According to police, the man and a woman had just dropped off another woman at the complex. The man was getting ready to drive away about 4:45 a.m., when two people tried to get in his car. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the driver.
The suspects ran away after the shooting and are still at large, according to police. Medical personnel took the victim to John Peter Smith Hospital for treatment, but he died a short time later in an operating room. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 24-year-old Lawrence Chance Homan.
Homicide detectives are investigating the two fatal shootings.
A fourth shooting occurred about 3:10 a.m. in the 6200 block of Hulen Bend Boulevard in the west part of the city. A woman told officers she was parked outside a convenience store when a black sport utility vehicle partly blocked her in, according to police.
The SUV followed the woman when she drove away, and its occupants fired at her car. A 911 caller at a nearby apartment complex reported hearing eight shots, according to the call sheet.
The woman wasn’t hurt, even though her vehicle was struck several times, police said. It’s not clear what led to the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
