North Texas family, including 8-year-old, killed in Georgetown triple homicide
A North Texas family of three, including an 8-year-old girl, who moved to Georgetown in search of a better life were gunned down and killed Saturday night, according to police and family members.
Police officers in Georgetown, which is in Williamson County in Central Texas, responded to the shooting about 7:30 p.m. at an apartment on Luther Drive along the Interstate 35 Frontage Road.
When officers arrived at the triple homicide scene, they found the bodies of the victims with multiple gunshot wounds inside the apartment, Georgetown police said in a news release.
The three victims were identified as 34-year-old Alonzo Hawkins, 39-year-old Doneisha Brooks, and her 8-year-old daughter, Olivia Brooks.
Investigators believe that the victims knew the shooter, according to the release. Police said they have identified a person of interest and they are searching for that person.
North Texas family moved for ‘fresh start’
The family, originally from Mansfield in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, moved to Central Texas for a fresh start, relatives told KVUE-TV.
“Olivia was [Doneisha’s] world, and she would have done anything. She was a mama bear. She would have protected Olivia with everything,” Kayla Brooks, Doneisha Brooks’ sister-in-law, told KVUE-TV.
“Who can take the life of a baby? She didn’t do anything wrong. Nothing. Nothing,” Kayla Brooks said. “She was so smart, so loved. There’s just no words. We’re all living a dream, and we want to wake up and see them again.”
Alma Ford, cousin of Brooks and Hawkins, told KVUE that Hawkins “kept you laughing even when you [were] sad.”
Family members in Mansfield are raising money for funeral expenses.
“At this time we are dumbfounded, heartbroken, and so very confused,” Kayla Niblett wrote in a GoFundMe post. “We are asking for any help and assistance to get our family members back home to the family and to give them the burial and funeral that these angels deserve.”
Anyone with any information about the killings is asked to call the Georgetown Police Department at 512-930-3510, or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-252-8477.
The Texas Rangers, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and ATF are assisting with the investigation.
“The Georgetown Police Department is deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of three members of our community, one being a child, and extends our heartfelt condolences to their family and loved ones during this difficult time,” police said in a statement.
