A suspected drunk driver has been arrested in connection with the Labor Day crash that killed four people, including an infant, in southwest Tarrant County.

Orbin Edgardo Zelaya Aguilar, 29, was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday. He faces four counts of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury, according to court records and the Sheriff’s Office.

Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn called the accident “a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy.”

“Four lives were lost because of one person’s reckless decision to drive under the influence,” Waybourn said in a news release Thursday. “We are committed to pursuing justice for the victims and their families, and we will continue to hold individuals accountable when their actions endanger others.”

The four-vehicle crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. Sept. 1 in the 8700 block of FM 1187 at Ben Day Murrin Road, near Benbrook and Cresson. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies in the area responded to investigate.

Three victims — 24-year-old Francisco Chavez-Garcia, 34-year-old Irma Garcia-Vasquez and Vasquez’s baby girl — died at the scene. A fourth victim, 52-year-old Marisol Villalobos, died in the emergency room at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest in Fort Worth shortly before 10 p.m.

Villalobos, a mother of three, was on her way home from visiting her youngest daughter at college when the crash occurred, her family told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.

Bond for Zelaya Aguilar has not been set. It’s not clear whether he has obtained a defense attorney to represent him in the case.

“TCSO extends its deepest condolences to the families affected and urges all residents to make responsible choices behind the wheel,” Sheriff’s Office officials said in the release.
