Three people were killed and two were critically injured in a four-vehicle crash Monday night on a southwest Tarrant County highway, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Tuesday.

Deputies were dispatched to the 8700 block of FM 1187 at Ben Day Murrin Road, near Benbrook and Cresson, about 8:20 p.m., according to the release.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 52-year-old Marisol Villalobos as one of the victims. She died in the emergency room at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest in Fort Worth shortly before 10 p.m.

Several agencies in the area were called to the crash scene to help, according to a Facebook post by the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department.

“This was a very serious 4 vehicle accident with multiple fatalities both at the scene and also after transport to hospital,” the post reads.

One person was airlifted to a hospital, and several more were taken by ambulance, according to the fire department. One vehicle caught fire, but bystanders and fire crews were able to get the occupants out.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the crash.

The highway was closed for several hours due to the accident. The road reopened shortly after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
