Nazi Germany flags unfurled on side of Rockwall-Heath High School in North Texas
Two Nazi flags, each bearing a swastika, were hung last week on the facade of a North Texas high school, and law enforcement and school district authorities are investigating to determine who displayed them.
Students saw the flags early Saturday, and officers responded to their report of the antisemitic display on the east side of Rockwall-Heath High School, in Rockwall County, Heath police said.
The flags were removed.
“We want to assure our community that we take this incident seriously,” the Heath Department of Public Safety wrote in a public post on social media. “We will not tolerate this behavior, and we are committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
Former Rockwall-Heath student Stephanie Parnes described to WFAA-TV a photo of the flags, which were the symbol of Nazi Germany, published online.
“It was two massive flags that were hung over the roof right over there that had swastikas on them,” Parnes said. “It was a Nazi symbol.”
“What happened was not a joke; it’s a threat,” said Parnes, who is Jewish. She told WFAA that her younger brothers were afraid to attend the school on Monday.
Heath Mayor Jeremiah McClure wrote Sunday in a statement on Facebook, “As the Mayor of Heath, I stand with our community in firm opposition to any acts of hatred, including the hateful display of flags that were found at Rockwall-Heath High School yesterday morning. We believe in the power of love, unity, and respect for all people, as God calls us to do.”
