Building materials worth $250K stolen from west Fort Worth church, officials say
Longvue Baptist Church in west Fort Worth is asking for the community’s support after all of the construction materials for the new church building, worth over $250,000, were stolen, church officials said.
An unidentified person broke into the property and stole all the parts of a disassembled steel building, Fort Worth police said. The theft was reported on Saturday, Aug. 9.
The Baptist church has been planning to move from its current location on Longvue Avenue on the west side of Fort Worth, “but it has been a very difficult process,” according to a statement posted on the church’s website.
The theft occurred at the new church site near the intersection of Old Weatherford Road and Rolling Creek Run, which is a couple of miles away from the current church location.
The church had been raising funds from members to perform work “bit by bit” on the land where the new building is to be constructed. Since the project started a few years ago, the costs of labor and materials have “skyrocketed,” according to the statement.
“We tried to do the right thing by getting the materials ahead of time at a discount only to have thieves come and take it all away,” the church’s statement says.
Pastor Brian Fisher has organized a GoFundMe and is seeking donations to get the church back on track to be able to continue building the new location.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact the church administration or Fort Worth police.
