An argument between two students at Collin College’s student housing complex ended in a shooting that injured one of them, and a 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Sunday, Plano police said.

The suspect, Courtney Jacob Johnson, of Plano, was arrested without incident, police said in a news release Monday.

Officers responded to the shooting about 8:20 p.m. Sunday in the 5800 block of Jupiter Road. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, police said.

The victim was taken a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said a Collin College police officer saw Johnson run away from the scene and enter an apartment within the same complex. A campus-wide lockdown was initiated, instructing all students on campus to shelter in place.

Johnson exited the apartment about 8:55 p.m. and was taken into custody by Plano police officers. The campus-wide lockdown was lifted by college administrators at about 10 p.m., police said.

Investigators determined that Johnson and the victim had an argument and a fight at the student housing parking lot, which led to the shooting, police said.

Johnson and the victim are registered as students at the college for the upcoming fall semester and live in the college’s student housing complex, according to the release.

The person who lives in the apartment that Johnson entered is known to both the suspect and the victim, but was not involved in the incident, police said.
