A suspect has been arrested in connection with a November 2024 shooting that led to the death of a 20-year-old Mansfield man, court records state.

Nineteen-year-old James Ortega, of Aledo, was booked into the Fort Worth City Jail on Wednesday. He faces a murder charge, according to police records.

Fort Worth police responded to a strip mall at 2321 Miller Ave. on Nov. 30 after they were called about the shooting, which initially was investigated as an aggravated assault. Daniel Wilson was shot while leaving one of the stores at that location, the police report states.

Wilson died in the ICU at John Peter Smith Hospital on April 27, nearly five months after the shooting. An official ruling on his cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website.

Ortega is being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $400,000 bond. It’s not clear if he’s obtained an attorney to represent him in the case.
