Bounty hunters arrested in fatal shooting of man near downtown Dallas, cops say
Dallas police arrested two bounty hunters who are accused in the fatal shooting of a man near downtown on Thursday.
The preliminary investigation determined the suspects shot a man who died after crashing his car near the intersection of Live Oak Street and Cantegral Street about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, police said in a statement.
The victim, 33-year-old Drew Knowles, was shot multiple times while he was sitting in the car in the 2700 block of Florence Street, then the suspects followed the victim until he crashed, police said.
Rodney Brown, 34, and Jorge Moncivais, 23, have been arrested. Both men face murder charges and are in the Dallas County Jail, according to the police.
Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV obtained an arrest warrant affidavit that says the suspects are bounty hunters who were chasing the shooting victim.
According to the affidavit, the bounty hunters were trying to serve a warrant and they decided to box in the man’s car. Brown got out of his vehicle with his gun drawn, walked toward Knowles’ car and then opened fire when the man tried to drive away, police wrote in the warrant.
Moncivais also got out of the car and fired multiple shots, according to the affidavit.
The car chase caused a electrical outage when the shooting victim’s car hit a light pole, knocking out power to about 2,400 Oncor customers including apartments and a grocery store, WFAA reported.
