A suspected gunman died and a woman was critically injured after a shooting at Bellrock Upper North Apartments in Haltom City on Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a person with a gun at the apartment complex about 11:30 a.m. at 4100 Northern Cross Blvd, Haltom City police said in a statement on social media.

When officers arrived at the scene, they secured the area and started communicating with people inside the apartment, police said.

Moments later, officers heard multiple gunshots from inside the unit. Officers forced entry into the apartment and found a 45-year-old man dead and a woman, who police referred to as the victim, with critical injuries.

No one else was inside the apartment. Police currently believe the case is a suicide and attempted murder, but the investigation is ongoing, a spokesperson said. “We are not ruling anything out until all the facts are known and the investigation is complete,” the spokesperson said.

Investigators determined that the man and woman knew each other, police said, but did not release details of their relationship.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the man’s death a suicide caused by a gunshot wound to the head. The medical examiner identified the man as Alexey Gonzalez Sargenton.

Detectives are investigating further details of what led to the shooting, police said.

Police said they believe there is no further threat to the public and the scene was secured. But residents were asked to avoid the area while first responders and investigators remained on scene, police said in the statement.
