A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection to the double homicide of two brothers in Arlington, Texas, police said.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a shooting that killed two brothers in Arlington last week, police said.

The suspect, Xavier Weddington, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force in Grand Prairie. They took him into custody on Friday, Arlington police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Weddington faces charges of capital murder of multiple persons and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records.

The assault charge came after he was previously arrested and accused of threatening a woman with a gun in October 2024, according to Tarrant County court records.

Brothers killed in double homicide

Arlington police officers were called to the Paddock on Park Row Apartments, in the 400 block of West Park Row Drive, about 5:10 p.m. on May 29.

They found 17-year-old Jason Cuevas and his brother, 21-year-old Bryan Cuevas, outside one of the buildings, police said. Both victims had gunshot wounds.

The Cuevas brothers were taken to a hospital, where they later died from their injuries, police said.

Officers responded to another call in the 2500 block of Sherry Street about 5:30 p.m., approximately 3.7 miles away from the first crime scene. On Sherry Street, officers found Weddington, who had been shot in the leg.

At that time, Weddington told the officers that he left the Paddock on Park Row Apartments and was walking to a relative’s home when an unknown person began shooting at him from a car, police said.

“Due to inconsistencies in his story and vague responses he gave to their questions, officers suspected Weddington may not be telling the truth,” police said in the release.

Witness led to arrest

A witness at the apartment later told detectives that they saw the shooting occur. The witness looked at a photo lineup and identified the shooter as Weddington, police said.

Homicide detectives learned that Weddington regularly stayed at a nearby apartment, police said.

A friend picked up Weddington from the Paddock on Park Row Apartments that afternoon and drove him to the location on Sherry Street, “which is consistent with the timeline,” police said.

Investigators believe the Cuevas brothers arranged to meet with Weddington at the apartment complex to complete a “high-risk” transaction that ultimately “went south,” police said in the release. Police have not released further details of the transaction.

Police said multiple guns were recovered at the crime scene.

The investigation of the double homicide is ongoing.

Weddington was booked into the Arlington City Jail and was transferred to the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
