7-year-old dies after being pulled from pond at Frisco shopping mall, police say
A 7-year-old girl died after she was pulled out of a pond near Stonebriar Centre shopping mall in Frisco on Saturday night, May 31.
Officers and firefighters responded to the report of a missing child near 2401 Preston Road about 9 p.m., Frisco police said. Multiple callers said the child might be in the pond behind the businesses on the northwest corner of Preston Road and Texas 121.
Police said the child’s shoes were found at the bank of the pond, which prompted the request for assistance from Lewisville Fire Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Frisco Fire Department divers entered the pond and searched underwater, Frisco police said in a news release on Monday, June 2.
The child was pulled from the water by divers and taken to the Children’s Hospital in Plano, where she later died, police said.
Police said based on the initial investigation they don’t suspect foul play and no criminal charges are being filed.
“We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time,” police said in the release.
