A 19-year-old North Texas woman was killed when she was hit by a suspected drunken driver while she was standing outside her car on a Wise County highway Thursday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The driver, who investigators said also hit three cars and tried to run away from the crash scene, was arrested and faces charges including intoxication manslaughter, according to a DPS news release.

DPS troopers responded to the crash on U.S. 287 near Ramhorn Hill Road about 9:30 p.m. on May 22. Their preliminary investigation found that the suspect was driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee headed north when he hit a 2008 Toyota Camry and a 2009 Honda Accord that were parked on the shoulder.

The driver also hit the woman, 19-year-old Destiny Quintanilla, who was standing near the Camry, investigators said.

The suspect then drove the Jeep across the median, onto the southbound lanes of U.S. 287, and hit a 2011 GMC Yukon, according to the release.

The driver tried to ran away but he was caught by witnesses who detained him until law enforcement arrived, DPS officials said.

DPS identified the driver of the Jeep as Alan Schutt, 58, of Boyd. He was taken to Medical City Decatur hospital, where he was treated and released into the custody of Texas Highway Patrol troopers.

The driver of the Camry, 20-year-old Mykah Dallas, of Grand Prairie, was injured in the crash. He was treated and released from Medical City Decatur.

Quintanilla, who was also from Grand Prairie, died at the hospital.

No one was inside the Honda Accord at the time of the crash.

The driver of the GMC Yukon, 42-year-old Jesse Gauna, of Bowie, was not injured.

State troopers determined that Schutt was intoxicated. After his release from the hospital, he was booked into the Wise County Jail. He faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid in a collision involving death.
