A 60-year-old rideshare driver was fatally shot by his passenger around midnight Wednesday, May 7, in North Richland Hills, police said.

Officers were called to the 8000 block of Mickey Street shortly after midnight after gunfire was reported in the area. They found a sport utility vehicle parked in the road and two men nearby, North Richland Hills police said in a news release posted to Facebook on Thursday, May 8.

One of the men had been shot and died at the scene. The second man was “highly intoxicated,” according to the post. Police found a gun next to him, and the 30-year-old North Richland Hills resident was arrested as a suspect in the homicide.

Police are investigating a motive for the killing, but don’t believe the two men knew each other. Authorities aren’t looking for other suspects, the release states.

The victim has been identified as Tahirou Diallo, of Hurst, according to the post.

Diallo drove for Uber. The company said in a statement, “We’re deeply saddened by this devastating loss. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the driver’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We are in contact with law enforcement and are supporting their investigation in any way we can.”

Police identified the suspect as Kane Roden, who was booked into the Tarrant County Jail. His bond has been set at $520,000.

Roden also had two outstanding charges from another law enforcement agency on counts of continuous violence against the family and violation of a bond/protective order, police said.

Anyone with information about the fatal shooting is asked to contact the North Richland Hills Police Department at 817-281-1000.
