1 dead in shooting at apartment near University of North Texas campus, police say
A 41-year-old man was shot and killed after a fight at an apartment near the University of North Texas on Tuesday morning, April 29, Denton police said.
Officers responded about 6 a.m. to the shooting at an apartment building in the 900 block of Avenue A, about half a mile from the UNT campus.
One of the 911 callers reported that a gun had been fired in an apartment unit following a disturbance between two men who knew each other, Denton police said in a news release.
The responding officers found an unconscious man with an apparent gunshot wound outside the apartment, police said.
Police said officers and medics attempted life-saving measures, but the man later died at a hospital.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Rogelio Lazaro and determined his death was a homicide. Lazaro lived at the apartment where he was shot, according to the medical examiner’s records.
Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred after a fight between the victim and shooter, who is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said.
No arrests have been made in the case, police said.
