A 40-year-old man was in custody Saturday after allegedly shooting into his neighbor’s house and barricading himself inside a northwest Fort Worth residence for several hours, police said.

Officers responded to the 3000 block of Lulu Street around 9:20 p.m. Friday, March 28, regarding a report of shots fired. The residents at that location told police they’d heard some loud bangs on the side of the house. When they went to investigate, they found several bullet holes.

The officers learned that a next-door neighbor was frequently seen with a long gun, according to police. When they went to talk with him, people in that house said they’d heard several shots coming from another part of the home, which was separate from the main part and had its own entrance and exit.

Officers evacuated the residents and tried to make contact with the man in the other part of the house. He refused to obey their commands, according to police, and barricaded himself inside.

SWAT units responded to the home, and the suspect was taken into custody after after a standoff of several hours. Police identified him as David Ayala.

Ayala was booked into the Fort Worth City Jail. He faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, jail records state.

Police said they recovered a weapon inside Ayala’s residence.
