Domestic violence suspect dies after leading Arlington police on chase into next county
A domestic violence suspect who was carrying drugs in his car experienced medical distress and died early Thursday, March 27, following a lengthy pursuit by Arlington police, officials said.
Officers responded to the domestic disturbance call in the 1800 block of Holly Oak Street about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26. The 911 caller said a man was trying to run over a woman with a car, police said.
The officers found the suspect inside a Nissan Altima and spoke with him briefly, according to police. The man then drove away.
Police said they later learned that the victim had been violently assaulted and sustained serious injuries. The suspect was also on parole for aggravated kidnapping.
Officers entered the suspect’s Nissan into the Flock camera system, which reads license plates, and the car was spotted about 2 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 20 near the Fort Worth city limits. Arlington police said they chase the suspect into Denton County.
When the Nissan stopped and the man didn’t get out, officers used a drone to observe him. It appeared the man was in medical distress, police said in a news release. Officers immediately provided medical aid, including giving the man Narcan, the release stated.
Narcotics were recovered from the suspect’s car, according to police. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. He has been identified as 47-year-old Pablo Vasquez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy will determine his cause and manner of death.
