A woman has been arrested after she was accused of pulling a gun on University of Texas at Arlington police officers during a traffic stop.

Officers pulled over a vehicle near the university in the 700 block of UTA Boulevard about 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25. They tried to take the driver into custody when they realized there was a warrant out for her arrest, university officials said.

The driver then pulled a firearm on the officers, who retreated and took cover, according to officials. The suspect refused to get out of the car, leading to a standoff, police said.

UTA police posted a campus emergency alert on X around 2:45 a.m. asking everyone to avoid the area.

The woman eventually drove away from the area and barricaded herself in a home in the 2600 block of Brockgreen Court, police said. The Arlington Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the house. The suspect surrendered several hours later and was taken into custody, according to police.

University officials identified the woman as 46-year-old Tessa Gabrielle Telles, of Arlington. She faces one count of evading detention or arrest in a vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault on a public servant and the existing warrant.
