Assailant who shot man in the head in Fort Worth alley was hired to kill him, police say

A 30-year-old man who was shot dead early Saturday, March 22, in an alley in south Fort Worth was slain by a person who had been hired to commit the killing, police allege. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Martin Diaz.

A 30-year-old man who was shot dead in an alley in south Fort Worth early Saturday was slain by a person who had been hired to commit the killing, police allege.

Martin Diaz’s body was found about 3:30 a.m. on March 22 in the 2600 block of Covert Avenue. Diaz had been shot in the head in an alley of gravel and grass between houses.

Luis Gomez De La Cruz, 29, and David Villanueva-Carbajal, 45, were arrested on suspicion of capital murder for remuneration.

Villanueva-Carbajal paid or promised to pay Gomez De La Cruz $10,000 or $15,000 to shoot Diaz to death, Fort Worth police allege.

The arrest warrant affidavit describing a Homicide Unit detective’s account of the killing has not been made public.
