Suspect arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed 30-year-old man, Arlington police say
Arlington police have arrested a man in connection with a June 2024 hit-and-run crash that killed a 30-year-old man.
Police said crash investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of Joel Sac Tambriz, 25, on one count of collision involving death, on Monday, March 10. Tambriz was found in Victoria, in south Texas near the Gulf Coast, police said.
On June 9, around 2 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Pioneer Parkway and South Center Street to investigate after a driver hit a pedestrian. The officers found Daniel Cruces lying unresponsive in the roadway.
Cruces was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Witnesses told investigators that Cruces was using the crosswalk at the intersection, trying to cross from the north side of Pioneer Parkway to the south side, when he was hit by a black Honda Civic going east on Pioneer.
Police said the driver of the Civic did not stop. Officers found the Civic abandoned not far from the crash site in the 700 block of East Pioneer Parkway.
The car was registered to Tambriz. Investigators said they also found documents and a phone inside the car that belonged to him.
Further investigation revealed that Tambriz was pulled over by an Arlington police officer in January 2024 while driving the same car, police said.
Police said digital evidence shows that Tambriz was near the crash site just before the collision.
Tambriz is being held at the Victoria County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to Tarrant County, police said.
