North Texas man who stabbed woman with pickaxe is sentenced to 25 years
A 52-year-old North Texas man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Wednesday, Feb. 26, for attacking a woman with a pickaxe in 2021, Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney Phil Sorrells said.
Vidal Marquez pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury as part of a plea deal on Feb. 20, according to court records.
On April 21, 2021, Marquez used a pickaxe to stab a woman who was giving him a ride in her car, according to the District Attorney’s Office. The attack broke the victim’s teeth, cut her face and caused one of her lungs to collapse.
Marquez ran away after the attack, prosecutors said. He was later arrested after police found him walking on Interstate 35.
He was indicted on the aggravated assault charge May 25, 2021, according to court records.
Marquez was classified as a habitual offender, according to court records. He was required to register as a sex offender after he was convicted of sexual assault of a child in 2005. He also was previously convicted of assault for attacking a woman with a knife in 1993.
