Two people were arrested after a search and seizure operation in The Colony last month led to the rescue of 88 animals, officials with The Colony Police Department said.

Brandy Lynn Bristol and Jeremy James Bristol were each charged with 12 counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals, a third-degree felony, police said.

Authorities found 24 dogs, 45 cats, 12 reptiles and seven mice at the Bristols’ property when the search warrant was carried out in January.

After a civil hearing Feb. 4, The Colony Animal Services and other nonprofit animal organizations took charge of caring for the animals, officials said.

When the animals have received the necessary veterinary care they will be publicly available for adoption, officials said.

In addition to the 88 living animals, 22 deceased animals were also found, according to a statement.
