Eight arrested in Dallas-Fort Worth gun crime operation, police say
A multi-agency operation in North Texas ended with the arrest of eight people, six of whom are charged with federal gun crimes, according to the Irving Police Department.
“Operation Reel Switch” began in 2024 and included federal Homeland Security Investigations and ATF agents and officers from the Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, Garland and Irving police departments, according to a news release.
The operation focused on the distribution of illegal machine gun conversion devices, or “Glock switches,” which can turn semiautomatic firearms into fully-automatic guns, police said.
Over four months, officials recovered four guns and 35 switch devices through social media advertisements, according to the statement.
Search warrants led to the recovery of five additional switch devices, four guns, narcotics and cash, officials said.
The eight suspects include seven men and one woman, who range in age from 17 to 22.
Federal charges in indictments against six of the suspects include possession and transfer of a machine gun, aiding and abetting in the possession and transfer of a machine gun, and conspiracy to possess and transfer a machine gun, according to the statement.
Two of the suspects have been charged at the state level with gun crimes and engaging in organized criminal activity, police said.
