Second suspect in fatal Fort Worth Thanksgiving night shooting arrested
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that killed two men in west Fort Worth on Thanksgiving night.
Tai Sanders, 17, was booked into the Fort Worth City Jail on Thursday, Dec. 19. She faces a charge of capital murder, jail records state.
Officers responded to reported gunshots at an apartment complex in the 2800 block of Broadmoor Drive the night of Nov. 28. They found three men with gunshot wounds, police said.
Javon Xavier Gayton, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene. J Tavian Lee Howard, 23, died around 10:40 p.m. at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s website. A third shooting victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to officials.
Homicide detectives learned that one of the victims was in a vehicle with an unknown person when two suspects approached his car, police said. The preliminary investigation determined that the three men exchanged gunfire and were shot.
Sanders is being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $250,000 bond, according to court records.
Paige Wheaton, 20, was arrested in the case on Tuesday, Dec. 17. She also faces a capital murder charge, according to jail records. She is being held on $500,000 bond.
Police have not described the two suspects’ alleged roles in the shooting.
