Murder suspect called 911 after he shot unarmed neighbor in Fort Worth: affidavit
The man accused of killing his neighbor in Fort Worth on Nov. 24 told police he shot the victim after being punched in the face, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Caspian Sanders Swinney, 26, called 911 after the shooting to report he had shot his unarmed neighbor, according to the affidavit.
Swinney told police that Oscar Alberto “Beto” Lopez, also 26, had punched him in the face, according to the warrant.
Lopez’s family said they believe the shooting occurred after an argument started about loud music. Lopez had just arrived home after picking up food for his wife and children, according to the family.
Police arrived on scene in the 1200 block of East Davis Avenue and found Lopez, lying in his driveway with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, authorities said. Investigators found four fired casings from a 9mm handgun, according to a police report.
Another neighbor told police he heard gunfire, looked in that direction, and saw a man matching Swinney’s description in a “shooting stance” between the two houses, according to the warrant.
Swinney was detained at the scene, but suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Swinney requested legal counsel shortly after being released from the hospital, police said.
Swinney was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on a murder charge and was released on $250,000 bond on Nov. 28, according to jail records.
