A burglary suspect who authorities said shot the police chief of a Texas Panhandle city three weeks ago was arrested on Friday, Oct. 25, in Fort Worth.

Seth Altman, 33, was inside Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County in the 1300 block of East Lancaster Avenue when Fort Worth police about 5 p.m. arrested him on suspicion of attempted capital murder of a peace officer.

Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant was shot on Oct. 3 when he and another officer attempted to arrest Altman in a burglary case, KVII-TV reported. Chief Plant went to the back door of an apartment, and the other officer went to the front. Altman left the back door, shot Plant and ran, authorities said.

Plant was flown to a Lubbock hospital, where he was reported to be stable.

Altman had last been seen walking or running in Memphis, heading toward U.S. Highway 287.

Memphis is in Hall County, about 85 miles southeast of Amarillo and 250 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
