As high school parade ended in east Fort Worth, a person unconnected was shot nearby
A 32-year-old man was shot and critically injured on Friday, Oct. 25, in east Fort Worth as a high school parade was underway nearby, authorities said.
The victim, who was not involved in the parade or connected to Eastern Hills High School, was fired upon about 1:45 p.m. in the 5700 block of Shelton Street. Officers assigned to the parade were nearby and responded to the shooting.
Eastern Hills High School was locked down. “[The shooting] occurred at the same time as our parade, which was wrapping up, and all students were brought inside the building,” the Fort Worth Independent School District wrote to parents, WFAA-TV reported.
The lockdown was lifted once police assessed the situation and determined the campus was not at risk, the district wrote, according to WFAA. Officials said no students or school staff were involved in the shooting.
The victim was found near the intersection of Meadowbrook Drive and Weiler Boulevard, about a block from the school, police said.. The victim was taken to a hospital, according to MedStar.
Police took into custody a person of interest after a vehicle pursuit and a foot pursuit.
